Trip Reflection: Paraguay and Brazil

Earl Korhonan shares about their latest trip to South America!

Paraguay

God’s Faithfulness. This is my assessment of our April/May trip to Paraguay and Brazil. Much has changed on the field since my first visit four years ago. God has faithfully brought our brothers and sisters in Christ through the pandemic, and He continues to faithfully provide strength and encouragement in the ministries in both Paraguay and Brazil.

In 2019, Matthew & Ednay Abel were new to Paraguay. Since then, they have settled in the city of Villarrica, Paraguay, and into a rented property that includes both their home and an adjacent building that functions beautifully as a sanctuary for the congregation. Villarrica has many needs, from college-age young people to low-income families on the edge of town. Matthew and Ednay seek to reach out to the families by engaging some college-age friends to join them in the weekly kids’ club meetings on Saturdays. Please join us in praying for the Lord to work in the many difficult family situations to whom Matthew and Ednay minister.God’s Faithfulness. Brazil

During our first visit to Brazil in 2019, the congregations faced a need for several pastors. But God has been faithful, and it is a joy to report that the congregations are pressing on in ministry. The Central church in Campo Mourão is enjoying a season of growth and nurturing under the leadership of pastor Alex- who grew up in the congregation.

The housing situation on the SETELL campus has benefited from several projects- and John and Hannah have just moved back into the mission house that now has a new steel roof. The Miriam Children’s Home continues to be blessed with many donations to meet the needs of nearly 100 children each year, and there is a new blessing- The DRELL discipleship group. This is a group of Bible school and seminary students who work part-time for the publishing house (funded by your gifts to the special project) on campus to translate our AFLC heritage series and related works into Portuguese. We have much to be thankful for the ministry in Brazil. Please pray for our national pastors and missionaries: Paul & Becky Abel, Jonathan & Tamba Abel, Jonni Sliver, and the John & Hannah Lee family.
